Beziehungen zwischen Deutschland und China etablierten sich seit fast 40 Jahren erfolgreich. Doch seit dem deutschen Regierungswechsel 2005 wird von chinesischer Seite eine Verschlechterung der Beziehungen und damit einhergehend eine schlechtere Darstellung Chinas in deutschen Medien beklagt. Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht das Chinabild im deutschen Nachrichtenmagazin 'Der SPIEGEL' und konzentriert sich dabei auf die Bildberichterstattung im Kontext von Artikelüberschrift und Bildunterschrift. Primäres Ziel der Arbeit ist es, das aktuelle Nationenbild Chinas zu ermitteln und zu überprüfen, inwiefern sich dieses im Vergleich zum Jahr 2004 tatsächlich verändert hat. Dazu wurden sämtliche Bilder der beiden Jahrgänge 2004 und 2009 mit einer quantitativen Inhaltsanalyse untersucht und statistisch ausgewertet.
