Darmkrebs (CRC) gehört weltweit zu den häufigsten Krebsarten und ist mit einer hohen Morbidität und Mortalität verbunden. Seine Entstehung wird durch verschiedene molekulare Mechanismen beeinflusst, wobei die Mikrosatelliteninstabilität (MSI) eine Schlüsselrolle spielt. Dieser Phänotyp resultiert aus einem Defekt des DNA-Mismatch-Reparatursystems (MMR), was zu einer Anhäufung genetischer Fehler führt, die die Tumorentstehung begünstigen.In Algerien lässt sich der Anstieg der Inzidenz von Darmkrebs größtenteils durch veränderte Ernährungsgewohnheiten erklären, insbesondere in den Großstädten. Die Umstellung auf eine Ernährung, die reich an rotem Fleisch und arm an Ballaststoffen ist, hat zu diesem alarmierenden Anstieg beigetragen. Auch Veränderungen des Lebensstils, wie Bewegungsmangel und der vermehrte Verzehr von verarbeiteten Lebensmitteln, spielen eine bedeutende Rolle.
