The ’Dalit Samanway Samiti’ (Dalit Coordination Committee) was formed through the joint efforts of Nitish Biswas and Professor Barman. As a true academic and scholar, he sought to usher in social equality, transitioning from mere equity to absolute equality, through the mediums of education, social justice, and empowerment. In 2004, after the College Service Commission published its merit list and announced to the media that no SC, ST & OBC candidates could be selected due to a lack of suitable applicants. ’Dalit Samanway Samiti’ and university students from across Bengal lodged a formal deputation to the Commission to protest this decision. As a direct result of this protest, addressed to the then-government and the Commission’s administrators, a new panel of over 350 qualified SC/ST candidates’ names was published. This incident serves as proof that, even when a government itself is committed to the right path, certain officials entrusted with responsibility often steer it astray-thereby tarnishing its reputation-and the discriminatory episode of 2004 stands as a glaring example of this phenomenon.
