Ziel dieser Untersuchung ist es, die Besonderheiten der Daguerreotypie-Produktion in Rio de Janeiro zwischen 1840 und 1850 zu ermitteln und zu analysieren. Die Daguerreotypie war das erste fotografische Verfahren, das von der französischen Regierung im August 1839 anerkannt und patentiert wurde. In Brasilien wurde sie im Januar 1840 von Abt Louis Compte in der Stadt Rio de Janeiro in Anwesenheit des zukünftigen Kaisers Pedro II. vorgestellt. Für diese Untersuchung wurden die Anzeigen von Daguerreotypisten in den Zeitungen der damaligen Zeit, die am Hof zirkulierten, und das Handbuch zur Herstellung von Daguerreotypien als Dokumente verwendet. Auf der Grundlage der in den Anzeigen enthaltenen Informationen haben wir Kategorien gebildet, um die Daten zu systematisieren. Auf diese Weise war es möglich, die allgemeinen Informationen über die Herstellung von Daguerreotypien mit den von den Fotografen dargestellten Besonderheiten zu vergleichen, die Daten miteinander in Beziehung zu setzen und den Wissensprozess in dieser Zeit darzustellen.
