Celem tego badania jest identyfikacja i analiza specyfiki produkcji dagerotypów w Rio de Janeiro w latach 1840-1850. Dagerotypia była pierwszym procesem fotograficznym uznanym i opatentowanym przez rząd francuski w sierpniu 1839 roku. W Brazylii został zaprezentowany w styczniu 1840 roku przez opata Louisa Compte w Rio de Janeiro w obecności przyszłego cesarza Pedro II. Aby przeprowadzić te badania, wykorzystaliśmy jako dokumenty ogłoszenia dagerotypistów w gazetach z tego okresu krążących na dworze oraz podręcznik dotyczący produkcji dagerotypów. Na podstawie informacji zawartych w ogłoszeniach ustaliliśmy kategorie w celu usystematyzowania danych. W ten sposób możliwe było porównanie ogólnych informacji na temat produkcji dagerotypów i specyfiki prezentowanej przez fotografów, powiązanie danych i umożliwienie mapowania procesu wiedzy w tym okresie.
