Tras haber estudiado judo y kendo, en 1960 se inscribió en el Shorei-Kan, la escuela de kárate Gojuryu de Okinawa que dirigía el maestro Seikichi Toguchi. Además de kárate, estudió kobudo de Okinawa y se decidió a enseñarlo, para lo cual se traslado a Estados Unidos. Actualmente reside en Francia y también se dedica a escribir diferentes tratados sobre kárate y kobudo.
