'The book is a memoir of Keto Elitabu Mshigeni, a retired academic who rose from a humble rural village to global recognition in academia. His Story is marked by a deep curiosity and dedication to understanding and conserving the world’s biological resources. The narrative covers a wide range of biota, including micro-algae, seaweeds, fungi, insects, and birds, in various ecosystems. The memoir is inspirational for students, educators, professionals, entrepreneurs, and government leaders, offering a wealth of knowledge and cultural insights. Written in an engaging style, it also highlights Mshigenis friendships and the traditions, values, and proverbs of his Vaasu (Pare) people. His journey is especially remarkable given his challenging rural beginnings.'-Professor Mishael Muze: Keto’s middle school teacher, later a fellow lecturer at UDSM, former Commissioner of Education in Tanzania, Vice Chancellor of University of Eastern Africa, Baraton (UEAB) in Kenya and Solusi University in Zimbabwe, and a close associate of Keto'Keto Mshigenis book is a source of inspiration. He motivated me to delve into the biology of aquatic plants, particularly algae (seaweeds), during his Botany classes in my BSc degree at the University of Dar es Salaam. His mentorship led me to pursue postgraduate studies in marine biology at the Univer sity of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, and later, a PhD at the National University of Ireland. At UBC, I had the privilege of learning from Prof. Robert DeWreede, Keto’s friend and classmate from the University of Hawaii. The book highlights Professor Mshigenis extensive research impact in higher education management, seaweed and mushroom farming, and beyond. Ahsante sana, Mwalimu.-Professor Yunus Mgaya: One of Keto’s earlier students, later a working colleague at UDSM, a Fellow and President of the Tanzania Academy of Sciences (TAAS), a Fellow of AAS and TWAS, and former Director General of NIMR'This memoir highlights Keto’s deep love and appreciation for people. The chapter 'Petals of Friend-ships' vividly illustrates how he quickly formed meaningful friendships wherever he went, sharing his blessings with others. He is truly a man of the people. The story also showcases his gratitude for his wife, Grace, his family, fellow students, teachers, friends, and colleagues who enriched his life. Addition ally, the book features many fitting quotes from the Holy Scriptures, seamlessly woven into the narrative with a poetic touch. May God bless Keto and the readers of his intriguing and enlightening memoirs. Amen'-Kangalu B. Elineema and Rawson P. Yonazi: Long time contacts who have closely followed Keto’s work since the late 1960s and were inspired by him to jointly author a book titled 'Arise and Shine' (mentioned in the story)
