L’invecchiamento si caratterizza come un processo post-riproduttivo che si verifica nell’essere umano, con cambiamenti che portano a un declino delle capacità organiche, rendendo l’individuo suscettibile a malattie con caratteristiche di senescenza e senilità. Quando si parla di invecchiamento con cancro e di fine del ciclo di vita, le esperienze analizzate rivelano l’impreparazione e la denaturalizzazione del processo di malattia e di morte, nonché il peso fisico e psico-emotivo di viverle. In questo contesto, le cure palliative emergono nei discorsi dei professionisti e dei familiari delle persone anziane affette da cancro come fonte di sollievo e dignità per la fine del ciclo. Le cure palliative sono rilevanti nel contesto dell’assistenza ospedaliera multiprofessionale, con i fisioterapisti in grado di modificare, ripristinare e promuovere il miglioramento della qualità della vita, nonché di alleviare i sintomi e le difficoltà generali delle persone anziane con cancro che sono malati terminali di fronte alle cure palliative.
