La courge tinda (citrullus vulgaris) appartient à la famille des cucurbitacées. Le tinda est un type de courge indigène du sous-continent indo-pakistanais qui ressemble beaucoup à la courge blanche à coquille Saint-Jacques. En fait, cette courge est connue localement sous le nom de tinda d’Amérique en raison de leur étroite affinité. La courge tinda a un fruit rond de la taille d’un petit navet. Elle est récoltée à l’état brut lorsqu’elle vient de perdre sa pubescence, mais son écorce est très tendre et ses graines sont molles. Le manque d’eau disponible dans des conditions salines entraîne une déshydratation au niveau cellulaire et, à terme, un stress osmotique. Les quantités excessives d’ions toxiques tels que Na+ et Cl créent un déséquilibre ionique en réduisant l’absorption d’ions bénéfiques tels que K+, Ca+2 et Mn+2. Compte tenu de l’ampleur de la salinité du sol et de ses effets sur les paramètres physiques et physiologiques des cultures, les objectifs suivants ont été formulés pour l’étude proposée : 1. Cribler les germoplasmes de courge tinda disponibles pour la tolérance à la salinité. 2. Identification des indicateurs morphologiques et physiologiques de la tolérance à la salinité chez la gourde tinda.
