The Culture Compass is designed for intermediate and advanced students who would like to improve their writing and speaking abilities in English, learn about a variety of grammar forms, and discuss current social and cultural issues throughout the world. This ESL text has two units addressing cultural issues relating to Asia, Europe, and North America. There are three levels in which to engage students. The first involves a variety of information exchanges in which students can discuss their values, background, families, social life and ideas. The second level provides either guided discussions (students are asked to give their own responses to a conversation), or set of constructed issues / scenarios in which to elicit information. In the third level, students move up to critical discussions focusing on one or more cultural issues. This book offers four different kinds of learning experiences: pair work, surveys, group reactions and debates.
