L’arachide est une légumineuse oléagineuse (oilseed) la plus cultivée. Suite à sa richesse en protéine et en huile, elle intervient dans l’alimentation humaine, voire animale. Étant donné que les protéines d’origine animale posent souvent un problème dans les pays en voie de développement, l’utilisation des légumineuses (soja, haricot, niébé, Vigna, arachide, etc.) demeure l’une des solutions. Le choix axé sur l’arachide se justifie par les raisons suivantes dans notre milieu : elle est plus consommée par la population et sous diverses formes, sa culture est facile par rapport aux autres légumineuses, elle se conserve correctement même dans les conditions traditionnelles grâce à ses coques, Son écoulement au marché est très rapide et tout au long de l’année, le processus de sa préparation ne consomme pas assez du temps, c’est une culture qui restaure la fertilité du sol ; elle facilite la vente complémentaire (Cross-selling) d’autres denrées alimentaires dont nous pouvons citer : le pain, les bananes, les avocats, la chikwangue, etc. En effet, la culture se réalise sous différents itinéraires culturels par les producteurs.
