The story begins with my meeting a man who was named Cuauhtemoc and who was born in S. America. He is half-Aztec and potentially related to the original. What started out to be a single book, blossomed to eventually become four. As I like to say about now; I didn’t so much write four books; but rather, one book, that was released in four installments.  In history, many mistakes were made on both sides of the 'pond;' ending up not only in the decimation of S. America but the degradation and fall of many European countries; many of which even today, hundreds of years afterwards, are still third-world countries. The story covers the first few moments of his life as a fetus and first few moments as a newborn. As a brief aside; the first paragraph of this book is basically taken straight out of my memory bank as I both recall being en vitro as well as some of my actual birth. The first book; Descending Eagle; covered his earliest years; his interactions with his Grandfather, among others, and establishes some of his extraordinary abilities, ending up with his time in birdman school, on through his first encounter with pirates. As a very brief aside; it was Spaniards who mostly raped S. America, but the Spaniards of today had nothing to do with that mess . . . so I made all of his protagonists pirates; because no one likes them.  The second book: Descent of the Sun Priests, continues on with his journey to the City of Emperors where he meets the Emperor and his three sons; comes again in contact with the same pirates who decimated the northern villages; raping and murdering and stealing as pirates always do. The story continues with him making himself known in the city, helping many, and eventually climbing to the topmost rung of the ladder and both meets Viracocha, the ’uncreated creator’ and saves the life of the old Emperor as well as destroys the Sun Priests who have been preying on the most weak and innocent of victims for far too long. And not coincidentally, becomes the new Emperor.  The third book; Descendant of the Jaguar, continues with him discovering more of his inherent paranormal abilities, which are explained via his grandfather, who is a master herbologist and it these herbs that he’s been taking since even before he was born that boost his mental and physical abilities far beyond that which is normal for man. In it, he first meets sailors from England as well as other countries and develops more into his 'Birdman of Maya' as well as interacting with yet other countries; his paranormal abilities continue to develop and in the end of the book, discovers what it means to be the ’Jaguar Priest.’  In the fourth and final book; Deception and Treason, the story continues with his ongoing battle against evil and further both expands his paranormal abilities as well as touching upon where and how these herbs come from; as well as why. In the end of the book, he is 100 years old . . . exactly, as he dies. Only; does he? Because in the same time frame, he also leaves the room in the company of Viracocha and other Mayan gods and goddesses in the form of his alternate identity.  3

Davies manages to convey what took place in previous episodes without seeming redundant, and Jaguar is much more tightly constructed than the first two stories. But it is really the minor characters that make this third book enjoyable. A displaced Spaniard, a British admiral, Cuauhtémoc’s youngest adopted brother, pirates and other nefarious villains provide the excitement and ...

Davies excels in three areas: his vivid descriptions of jungle and village life; his characterizations, especially of secondary characters such as Cuauhtemoc’s friends and mentors; and his natural-sounding dialogue, perhaps the most difficult task for an aspiring author...an otherwise impressive first novel.-BlueInk ReviewThis story takes place in the early 16th Century; a time...
