La tecnica DEMATEL si basa sulla teoria dei grafi, grazie alla quale possiamo realizzare progetti e risolvere problemi in modo visivo. La relazione di causa-effetto tra i fattori può essere trovata sulla base del gruppo di causa-effetto creato con l’aiuto di questo approccio. Dalla relazione tra i fattori critici si può creare un modello strutturale intelligibile con DEMATEL. Nel mondo reale, i valori croccanti sono un riflesso inadeguato e generalmente i valori croccanti sono dati dal giudizio del processo decisionale. La teoria degli insiemi fuzzy è necessaria perché i giudizi umani sulle preferenze non sono chiari. Pertanto, è necessario estendere il metodo DEMATEL con la teoria degli insiemi fuzzy e le variabili linguistiche per il processo decisionale in ambienti fuzzy per il settore bibliotecario. Questo studio ha utilizzato il metodo DEMATEL fuzzy per gestire il problema MCDM per il segmento dei fattori critici nel settore bibliotecario. Grazie a questa tecnica, i fattori complessi vengono suddivisi in gruppi di causa ed effetto, fornendo un diagramma casuale visibile e aiutando il processo decisionale nella scelta del software per la biblioteca digitale. Se i bibliotecari/la direzione vogliono applicare il software, possono prendere spunto da DEMATEL per scegliere il software.
