Esta obra é um levantamento documental, organizado cronologicamente, o qual tem como principal personagem Cosma Cabral de Jesus, a primeira parteira da povoação do Carurú, que é vista em documentos entre o último quarto do século XVIII e os primeiros anos do século XIX. São 27 documentos apresentados em imagem e transliterados, dos quais 26 mencionam a parteira. Alguns dos registros mencionam o fundador de Caruaru, José Rodrigues de Jesus e seus parentes. Também são discutidas nesta produção questões relacionadas à atividade daquela parteira, quando apresento uma entrevista a Marcella Moura de Queiroz Marques, uma doula na Caruaru dos tempos atuais (2022).
