Gli acciai duplex sono ampiamente utilizzati nella produzione di apparecchiature e tubazioni per l’industria petrolifera e del gas. Il loro principale limite è che, con l’aumento della temperatura e il successivo raffreddamento, è possibile la precipitazione di fasi deleterie, che riducono drasticamente la resistenza alla corrosione e le proprietà meccaniche di questi materiali. La saldatura per attrito (FSW) è considerata una valida alternativa ai processi di fusione. Poiché in questo processo l’unione dei materiali avviene allo stato solido, si evitano molti dei problemi di saldabilità associati alle tecniche di saldatura tradizionali. L’uso dell’acciaio duplex magro UNS S82441 in questo processo potrebbe offrire un’opzione altrettanto efficiente degli acciai austenitici 304L e 316L e più economica del duplex UNS S31803.
