Mentre l’obiettivo del graphic design è presentare un prodotto o un servizio, la copertina di un album, in quanto prodotto di graphic design, protegge il supporto registrato e presenta la musica o il musicista. Nella maggior parte dei prodotti di graphic design i messaggi verbali sono indispensabili e devono far parte dell’analisi con le loro due dimensioni: leggibilità e aspetto. L’obiettivo di questo lavoro è analizzare una serie di prodotti di graphic design per trovare un sistema di traduzione tra discipline diverse, quali il graphic design e la musica. Sono state scelte e analizzate le copertine di 13 album della band post-punk britannica dei Cure, per capire come uno stile musicale o il sé di un musicista possano essere presentati visivamente.
