Le réseau routier d’une ville et la qualité du système de transport routier ont un impact important sur la croissance économique d’une région et facilitent la communication entre les utilisateurs de la route et les déplacements. Avec la croissance de la population, le secteur des transports impose également une part accrue de l’économie dans son ensemble. En effet, si le transport routier est un levier de croissance dans les grandes villes, il a toutefois des impacts environnementaux tels que le bruit et la pollution. Les embouteillages dans le réseau routier représentent en effet une contrainte considérable pour les autorités de la ville. Ce sont pour ces principales raisons que la question du développement du réseau routier et la gestion du trafic urbain est devenue un domaine de recherche principal au XXIème siècle.Le nombre de véhicules augmente constamment. Cette augmentation a permis d’atteindre la limite de saturation motrice sur de nombreuses routes, elle peut entraîner des embouteillages et des retards de circulation qui peuvent entraver la croissance économique et sociale de la région. De mauvaises infrastructures routières dégradent considérablement la situation.
