Residential care homes are institutions designed to protect children who have been removed from their parents’ care due to situations that jeopardize their well-being. Currently, the exact number of such institutions and the children residing in them is unknown, and there is limited research on the subject. However, it has been observed that minors raised in these facilities experience issues regarding their physical and emotional development. This study focuses primarily on difficulties with interpersonal contact-stemming from the girls’ histories of violence and neglect-and the establishment of boundaries in response to behaviors observed within the care home. Examining these areas allows for the application of psychoanalytic theory to a social issue in Mexico, while also broadening our understanding of the conditions children need for optimal physical and psychological development.
