Um dos maiores problemas que o mundo enfrenta atualmente é o consumo de drogas e substâncias ilícitas, que se tornou também um grande problema de saúde pública. As mais favorecidas são as substâncias psicoactivas, que incluem o tabaco, o álcool, as drogas ilegais e as receitas médicas. A maioria dos toxicodependentes começou a consumir drogas numa idade muito jovem (adolescente), levando depois à dependência. Com base neste problema, têm sido utilizados ao longo dos anos diferentes programas de prevenção para evitar o consumo de drogas entre os adolescentes. Estes programas visam diminuir os factores de risco e, ao fazê-lo, reforçar os factores de proteção. Neste estudo, é abordada a visão geral sobre o consumo de drogas pelos adolescentes, a análise da sua natureza, risco, consequências e possível prevenção.
