Le livre étudie de manière critique la manière dont la littérature africaine postcoloniale s’engage dans l’idéologie et l’esthétique de la conscience noire. Ancré dans la période de l’apartheid, le livre explore comment la *Mère à Mère* de Magona reconstruit l’identité, fait revivre des histoires réprimées et provoque une prise de conscience politique. S’appuyant sur la vision de Steve Biko, la recherche analyse la conscience noire à la fois comme outil politique et comme technique littéraire.
