La purezza dell’acqua in alcune regioni del mondo e la sua carenza in altre aree rappresentano un problema sempre più grave; pertanto, risparmiare una goccia d’acqua significa salvare una vita! Negli impianti di desalinizzazione a osmosi inversa (RO) si registrano ingenti perdite di acqua concentrata, ricca di sostanze nutritive; ciò richiede strategie economiche per il recupero di questi sottoprodotti e quindi per evitare lo spreco d’acqua attraverso lo scarico. Questo lavoro, condotto presso il Centro Nazionale di Ricerca in Egitto nel 2015, cerca di mettere in evidenza le soluzioni a tali problemi attraverso una raccolta di casi di studio provenienti da diversi settori industriali che applicano tecnologie diverse ma che si trovano ad affrontare gli stessi problemi ambientali.
