Les progrès technologiques ont contribué à l’évolution de la technologie UWB La libération d’une largeur de bande de 7,5 GHz (de 3,1 GHz à 10,6 GHz) par la Commission fédérale des communications (FCC) pour les communications sans fil à bande ultra-large (UWB) a permis à l’UWB de progresser rapidement en tant que technique de communication sans fil à haut débit. Comme c’est le cas pour les systèmes de communication sans fil conventionnels, une antenne joue également un rôle crucial dans les systèmes UWB. Toutefois, la conception d’une antenne UWB pose davantage de problèmes que celle d’une antenne à bande étroite. Une antenne UWB appropriée doit être capable de fonctionner sur une bande passante ultra large telle qu’allouée par la FCC.
