Se indagó sobre la posibilidad de que la comunidad de mayoría indígena (náhuatl) de Barrio 18, en Xochimilco, Ciudad de México, evidenciando tener nociones, conocimientos y práctica en el uso del Internet y las redes sociales, pudiese a través de éstas, producir, organizarse, interactuar y conformar comunidades de aprendizaje, de modo que los miembros de la comunidad pudiesen, informándose, interactuar en comunidades de aprendizaje. Se mostró que los participantes tienen interés en saber sobre aspectos diversos que acontecen al interior de su comunidad. Además, sobre lo que sucedía en otras partes del mundo, donde pudiesen encontrar gente con problemas e intereses parecidos a los suyos, intercambiando con ellos a través de las redes sociales y las comunidades de aprendizaje, sin ver negada su identidad o perder su autonomía. El trabajo concluye con la convicción de que es verdaderamente factible que las redes sociales y las comunidades de aprendizaje a través de la interacción, la comunicación y la participación comunitaria podrían coadyuvar a que su inserción en la sociedad fuese de una manera más justa, incluyente y democrática, a propósito del mentado contexto intercultural.
