A urolitíase, o processo de formação de cálculos urinários, implica a presença de massas compactas como a whewellite, a brushite e o urato no sistema urinário. A gota, caracterizada por artrite inflamatória, surge da acumulação de cristais de urato (MSUM). Os exames in vitro, centrados no crescimento de cristais de whewellite (COM), brushite (CHPD) e urato (MSUM) em lâminas de vidro, constituem uma abordagem económica para obter informações valiosas sobre a urolitíase e a gota. Estes estudos não só aprofundam os padrões de crescimento dos cristais, como também investigam a potencial inibição do crescimento dos cristais através da aplicação de infusões de plantas, lançando assim as bases para uma investigação mais aprofundada nestes domínios.
