Colitis ulcerosa (UC) ist eine Unterkategorie der entzündlichen Darmerkrankungen. Der Begriff „entzündliche Darmerkrankungen' bezieht sich auf eine große Gruppe von Erkrankungen, die das Magen-Darm-System betreffen. Eine Entzündung ist ein Prozess, der auftritt, wenn das Immunsystem des Körpers beginnt, fremde Eindringlinge wie Viren, Bakterien und Pilze abzuwehren. Das Immunsystem ist ein Netzwerk aus Organen, Geweben, Zellen und Chemikalien, das dazu dient, eindringende Organismen abzutöten. Einige der vom Immunsystem produzierten Chemikalien reizen das körpereigene Gewebe. Sie verursachen Hitze, Rötung, Schwellung und Funktionsverlust. Diese Veränderungen sind alle charakteristisch für entzündetes Gewebe. Die entzündliche Darmerkrankung (IBD) wird üblicherweise in zwei Hauptunterarten unterteilt: Colitis ulcerosa und Morbus Crohn. Das vorliegende Buch beschreibt die Verwendung von Moringa oleifera und Orangenschalenextrakt bei der Behandlung von Colitis ulcerosa.
