Opisano działanie całkowicie zdecentralizowanej sieci społecznościowej, która już na etapie projektowania oprogramowania respektuje prywatność użytkowników. Dzięki przejrzystej infrastrukturze klucza publicznego nawet użytkownicy nieposiadający wiedzy technicznej mogą bezpiecznie komunikować się w sieci społecznościowej. Struktura sieci sprawia, że komunikacja nie wymaga nawet wzajemnej znajomości adresów IP rozmówców, co utrudnia powiązanie nazwy użytkownika z prawdziwym imieniem i nazwiskiem. Architektura sieci utrudnia również blokowanie niepożądanych treści, ponieważ nie są one przechowywane w centralnym, łatwym do znalezienia miejscu. W ten sposób CobWeb przyczynia się do zapewnienia wolności słowa i nawet w najtrudniejszych warunkach stanowi stabilną platformę komunikacyjną, która może zagwarantować swobodny i bezpieczny przepływ informacji.
