Durante años, el principal objetivo de las investigaciones urbanas en España consistió en estudiar las raíces del intenso proceso urbanizador asociado a la burbuja inmobiliaria. Más tarde, se dirigieron hacia los graves efectos provocados por la crisis de ese modelo de crecimiento. No obstante, desde 2013 se ha iniciado un nuevo ciclo inmobiliario marcado por la recuperación de la inversión y la compraventa de viviendas, la nueva escalada de los precios o la burbuja del alquiler en las grandes ciudades, que genera nuevos conflictos. El libro analiza la evolución de la actividad inmobiliaria en España durante el último cuarto de siglo prestando especial atención a las estrategias de los actores financieros, esenciales para comprender estos procesos. Sus principales novedades son el estudio pormenorizado de este nuevo ciclo y sus fuertes contrastes territoriales, así como de las estrategias de los nuevos operadores financieros, que compiten con los tradicionales por repartirse el negocio urbano, lo que acentúa el proceso de mercantilización de la ciudad.
