Ciudadela, publicada en 1948, reúne las notas que el autor de El Principito dejó escritas cuando desapareció en Francia en misión de guerra. El libro, escrito como si fuera un diario, presenta las reflexiones que un rey transmite a su hijo el príncipe sobre los aspectos esenciales de la vida, tales como la justicia, la fe, el poder, el amor, el trabajo o Dios. Ciudadela es la obra en la que Saint-Exupéry plasma con mayor claridad su mundo interior y su filosofía de vida e insiste en uno de los temas recurrentes en toda su obra: la necesidad de volver a la esencia de las cosas y encontrar un orden social y espiritual a través de la fe y la experiencia humana.
