In 1993 the Society of the War of 1812 in Maryland issued the centennial publication, 'A Chronicle of the War of 1812 Soldiers, Seamen, and Marines.' At the request of the Society, Clearfield Company is pleased to reprint that work, along with a 'Year 2000 Supplement' consisting of corrections and additions to the base volume. This extremely useful work furnishes thumbnail sketches of the more than 500 veterans of the War of 1812 from whom a member of the Maryland Society of the War of 1812 could claim direct or collateral descent. Each entry consists of the veteran’s dates and places of birth, marriage, and death; the name of his spouse; and the nature of his service during the War of 1812. This information is followed by the name of the Society member(s) claiming descent from that veteran, along with that individual’s membership numbers in the Maryland State Society and the General Society of the War of 1812. Knowing a lineage number makes it easier for a researcher to learn if his own ancestry dovetails with that of a Society member’s proven lineage. Since the veterans are arranged in alphabetical order by surname, the name index at the back of the base volume and at the back of the 'Supplement' refer only to those individuals whose surnames are different from the veterans, about 1,400 in all. Accompanying the sketches of the veterans and the indexes, the researcher will find a number of War of 1812 illustrations, histories of the General Society of the War of 1812 and the Maryland Society, a roster of Maryland Society officers, with their dates of service, and, in the 'Supplement,' several corrections to the 1993 opus.
