This book is a technical studies book that explores permutations of chromatic cells as performed on trumpet. A permutation is a way, especially one of many possible variations, in which a set can be arranged. Chromatic cells contain all chromatic pitches within an identified interval ranging from minor second to major seventh. Permutations are marked by Roman numeral sections, which are further divided into key centers (no key signatures are used) marked by Arabic numerals. These chromatic permutations help refine the performer’s dexterity throughout the trumpet’s written range from F#3 to F#6; as intended for the intermediate to advanced trumpeter. Play each exercise at the fastest possible tempo while preserving accuracy, tuning (pitch), and clarity. Maintain consistent tempo for all Arabic numerals within a Roman numeral section. Each exercise is to be played in one breath. Repeat signs indicate measures that may be repeated as many times as necessary. Remain relaxed and focus on obtaining the best possible sound. Play only as high as physically comfortable; avoid injury. Once mastered, play one permutation set daily. This book was developed and has been indoctrinated as an aspect of my personal practice routine. The exercises will appeal to performers seeking to advance their technical mastery of the trumpet.
