When the battles of WWII reached his hometown Beja, Tunisia, the author was ten years old. His parents and six siblings fled town under difficult circumstances, seeking shelter in various places and surrounding farms, and ultimately a cave in the mountains.Although his childhood was deeply impacted by these events, he does not consider having lost it, but rather regained his childhood.
