Un error y medio que cometiera el Comandante Chávez, inspiró al autor estos Retratos Periodísticos a ritmo de poesía, mucha risa y una que otra peca filosófica. Este libro despierta con furia, crece con gracia y se duerme con ternura. Crítica incisiva al Comandante, sí, pero al interior de la Revolución, y no como a la derecha venezolana e internacional le habría encantado (ya Vargas Llosa eructa exageradamente pestilente a favor de esta). Artículos Contados y Canciones para Combatientes, un tercio de ellos sublevándose contra la trágica extradición a Colombia de Joaquín Pérez Becerra, periodista-director de la agencia de noticias ANNCOL, y del injusto encarcelamiento de Julián Conrado (cantante de las FARC) en Venezuela; una epístola barroca a Gaddafi, la víspera de su vil asesinato; una carta para agonizar de risa entre amigos, a Sandino Primera; un par de críticas a ciertos 'cantantes'; una puesta en guardia a Maduro; un mini ensayo sobre la saliva y una crítica a cierto silencio de Mandela.
