A Tese apresentada pela autora à Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro-UTAD, em seu Doutoramento em Gestão, foi adaptada para o formato de livro. Tem como objeto de estudo o processo de avaliação de conhecimentos denominado Certificação Profissional. Nesse caso, examinou-se o processo de certificação de conhecimentos em investimentos, obrigatório por determinação legal para os profissionais que trabalham com produtos de investimentos nas instituições que compõem o Sistema Financeiro Brasileiro-SFB. A investigação ancorou-se em questões avaliadoras dos impactos da certificação profissional em investimentos nos subsistemas de gestão de pessoas das organizações componentes do SFB. Buscou-se identificar quais os efeitos do processo de certificação em investimentos são reconhecidos pelos profissionais certificados. Além disso, a investigação esteve voltada para a aferição da possibilidade de vínculos entre o processo de certificação e as estratégias da organização, averiguando a possibilidade de contribuição dessa ferramenta para o alinhamento estratégico da área de gestão de pessoas. A ferramenta estudada ancora-se conceitualmente nas abordagens de gestão estratégica de pessoas, buscando elementos de conexão nas linhas de gestão de pessoas por competências e gestão do conhecimento. O reconhecimento fornecido pela certificação atesta um conhecimento, um dos elementos da competência, que está a exigir o seu gerenciamento nas organizações e impacta os processos de aprendizagem. 10
