Ceftriaxona para injeção, USP é um antibiótico cefalosporínico estéril, semissintético e de amplo espectro para administração intravenosa ou intramuscular. A ceftriaxona sódica é (6R, 7R)-7-[2-(2-amino-4-tiazolil) glioxilamido]-8-oxo-3-[[(1, 2, 5, 6-tetrahidro-2-metil-5,6-dioxo-as-triazina-3-il)tio]metil]-5-tia-1-azabiciclo[4.2.0]oct-2-eno-2-carboxílico, 72-(Z)-(O-metiloxima), sal dissódico, sesquateridrato. A ceftriaxona é uma cefalosporina de terceira geração utilizada no tratamento de infecções adquiridas na comunidade, tais como pneumonia e infecções do trato urinário. Demonstrou grande vantagem na administração uma vez ao dia, com base na sua farmacologia, e não requer insuficiência renal. É estável para β-lactamases contra cefalosporinas de primeira ou segunda geração. A ceftriaxona também é utilizada para endocardite estreptocócica como regime terapêutico alternativo de primeira linha e para doenças sexualmente transmissíveis (DST), como sífilis e cancroide.
