Este estudo, baseado em dados e observações recolhidos na pesca comercial na região de Argel e em inquéritos efectuados durante três campanhas diferentes ao longo da costa argelina, fornece, pela primeira vez, informações sobre a distribuição geográfica e batimétrica das espécies de cefalópodes e o seu inventário. Este estudo debruçou-se igualmente sobre a ecologia, a alimentação, a reprodução, o crescimento e a exploração de uma espécie de sepiídeo: Sepia officinalis (L, 1758). Esta espécie está presente em todos os sectores de atividade pesqueira da Argélia entre a superfície e os 200m. A sua fauna associada é constituída por peixes de interesse comercial evidente. Um primeiro estudo morfométrico e físico-químico das espinhas de choco fornece novas informações sobre a provável discriminação das populações de choco ao longo da costa argelina. A sua alimentação é constituída principalmente por peixes e crustáceos.
