章榮初(1901-1972)，上海企業家，二十世紀同齡人，出生浙江鄉鎮，十八歲到上海，從學徒開始，三十歲後成爲上海灘顯赫大老闆。在他最輝煌的歲月，既是活躍商界的大富豪，也是青幫大亨杜月笙「恆社」的核心人物，1948 年出走香港，被統戰回大陸。共產建政後，歷經鎮反、三五反、公私合營、反右、四清、文革各次政治運動，在文革後期黯然離世。章榮初的一生，從艱難創業，到叱咤風雲，到被統戰、改造、共產，經歷了中國現代民營企業全盛到幻滅的全過程，經歷了中華民國在大陸的全過程，及毛澤東時代巔峰。本書生動描繪了民國時代眾多事件和人物，也真實記錄了毛時代倒行逆施和反人類罪行。[作者簡介]本書作者章濟塘，章榮初長孫，1945 年出生在祖父事業黃金期，也因所謂「出身問題」，十九歲被送到新疆農場，文革中「戴反革命帽子，監督勞動」十四年，1981 年移居香港，退休後以十年時間完成本書，記錄家史變遷，觀察社會百態，反思巨變時代。
