Ces dernières années, les espèces envahissantes sont devenues un sujet brûlant et les invasions biologiques par des espèces exotiques constituent l’une des principales menaces pour la biodiversité indigène ou native dans presque tous les pays du monde. Ce phénomène a été largement reconnu par les scientifiques et les chercheurs. Les envahisseurs sont donc reconnus comme l’un des principaux problèmes environnementaux à l’échelle mondiale. Le Sri Lanka est une petite île tropicale riche en écosystèmes uniques et variés. Aujourd’hui, plusieurs écosystèmes du Sri Lanka ont été touchés par des invasions biologiques qui ont des répercussions sur l’environnement et la vie humaine, notamment sur la biodiversité, l’agriculture et la santé humaine, ainsi que sur les processus sociaux, culturels, économiques et écologiques. Afin de gérer les envahisseurs, il est nécessaire de disposer d’informations détaillées sur leur répartition et leur taux de propagation, ainsi que sur les meilleures pratiques en matière de lutte contre leur propagation. Ce travail est la première tentative de cartographie de la propagation du Myroxylon balsamum (L.) Harms dans la forêt d’Udawattakele, dans le district de Kandy, au Sri Lanka.
