Questo lavoro nasce dall’esigenza di approfondire la ricerca sui blocchi in terra-cemento come materiale da costruzione alternativo, analizzandoli da un punto di vista architettonico, osservando il problema abitativo in Brasile e cercando anche soluzioni che contribuiscano a preservare l’ambiente. Poiché per la costruzione di nuove abitazioni si estraggono indiscriminatamente molte risorse naturali e si producono anche notevoli rifiuti, proponiamo di incorporare gli scarti di malta cementizia e sabbiosa provenienti dalla posa di pareti e rivestimenti nella produzione di blocchi in terra-cemento, noti come SCR (terra-cemento-rifiuto) BTC (blocco in terra compattata), da utilizzare per l’impermeabilizzazione verticale delle case popolari, attraverso studi, test e analisi delle prestazioni tecniche. In termini generali, la sostituzione della terra con i rifiuti è considerata un’alternativa economica e sostenibile per la produzione di componenti edilizi che soddisfano i criteri di coordinamento modulare, resistenza meccanica, capacità di assorbimento dell’acqua e durabilità richiesti per le buone prestazioni degli edifici abitativi.
