Poucos estudos no mundo e na Tunísia se concentraram na infeção por SARS-CoV-2 em indivíduos idosos. O objetivo do nosso trabalho foi determinar as caraterísticas clínicas, paraclínicas e evolutivas da infeção por SARS-CoV-2 em pacientes tunisinos idosos. Realizámos um estudo monocêntrico, retrospetivo e descritivo de pacientes hospitalizados na unidade Covid de um departamento de medicina interna tunisino entre 1 de fevereiro e 31 de julho de 2021. Comparamos as caraterísticas clínicas, paraclínicas e evolutivas de dois grupos de pacientes definidos de acordo com a idade: pacientes G1 com 70 anos ou mais; G2: pacientes com menos de 70 anos. A infeção por SARS-CoV-2 em nossos idosos foi caracterizada por uma apresentação clínica atípica e grave. A identificação de factores preditivos da gravidade da pneumonite relacionada com o SARS-CoV-2 em doentes idosos parece, portanto, imperativa para estabelecer uma abordagem terapêutica adequada para evitar resultados adversos.
