Cet ouvrage a été motivé par la forte augmentation de la population, liée au processus accéléré et non planifié d’urbanisation, qui exerce une forte pression sur les ressources naturelles de la Chapada dos Guimarães. Son objet est le micro-bassin du ruisseau Quineira. L’hypothèse de départ est qu’en identifiant ses sources, en les caractérisant et en diagnostiquant la couverture végétale, les processus d’érosion, les formes et les occurrences de l’habitat et la qualité des ressources en eau de surface, il sera possible de proposer des actions qui permettront de préserver l’environnement, de minimiser les effets de la dégradation et même de permettre la récupération des zones dégradées. L’eau est la source de la vie, tous les êtres vivants en dépendent pour vivre. Cependant, malgré son importance, les masses d’eau et les sources sont en train d’être détruites.
