Capturing A Locomotive: A History Of Secret Service In The Late War is a non-fiction book written by William Pittenger. The book is a detailed account of a daring mission undertaken by a group of Union soldiers during the American Civil War. The mission involved the capture of a Confederate train, which was carrying supplies and reinforcements to the front lines. The soldiers, who were members of the Union Secret Service, disguised themselves as Confederate soldiers and managed to board the train undetected. Once on board, they overpowered the Confederate crew and drove the train back to Union lines. The successful mission was a major blow to the Confederate army and helped turn the tide of the war in favor of the Union. The book provides a fascinating insight into the workings of the Union Secret Service and the bravery and ingenuity of the soldiers who carried out this dangerous mission. It is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of the American Civil War and the role of espionage in military conflicts. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
