Os canais de denúncia de violência doméstica só podem ser considerados eficazes quando as vítimas obtêm os cuidados e recursos de que necessitam. Apesar do elevado nível de consciencialização das pessoas relativamente aos canais de denúncia, a sua utilização continua a ser alarmantemente baixa. Esta subutilização deve-se, em parte, a vários factores, como o receio do estigma associado à revelação dos abusos, uma desconfiança geral em relação às instituições formais destinadas a ajudá-las e uma falta geral de sensibilização para compreender e envolver as potenciais vítimas. Mais uma vez, a maioria das vítimas continua a recorrer a redes informais para obter apoio, um facto que reflecte a posição poderosa dos contextos culturais nos seus processos de tomada de decisão. Este livro tem como objetivo analisar a dinâmica destes canais de comunicação e as barreiras à denúncia e, como tal, as estratégias que podem ser utilizadas para inspirar confiança e encorajar as vítimas a procurar ajuda através dos canais formais e informais.
