L’esposizione a livelli elevati di composti organici volatili e semivolatili può avere effetti nocivi sulla salute. Gli idrocarburi policiclici aromatici (IPA) rappresentano un gruppo costituente importante degli inquinanti atmosferici volatili/semi-volatili e alcuni di essi hanno dimostrato di esercitare effetti cancerogeni e mutageni sull’uomo. Poiché l’inalazione è una delle principali vie di assorbimento dei composti IPA e la gravità dell’esposizione dipende dalle concentrazioni nell’aria, è essenziale misurare i livelli atmosferici di IPA. Il campionamento attivo è un metodo preciso per il campionamento dei IPA, ma presenta alcuni limiti in termini di praticità e capacità di implementazione su larga scala. Il campionamento passivo, invece, è più semplice e intuitivo e può essere utilizzato in modo discreto in qualsiasi ambiente esterno o interno. Il lavoro qui presentato consiste principalmente nelle basi della progettazione, dello sviluppo, del collaudo e della convalida di un campionatore passivo basato su Tenax per inquinanti organici volatili/semi-volatili presenti nell’aria. Il campionatore sviluppato è stato testato in diversi ambienti simulati e infine è stata effettuata una prova sul campo per convalidarne le capacità. Le prestazioni del campionatore sono state apprezzabili nella misurazione dei PAH presenti nell’aria con una maggiore volatilità.
