從1931年到1945年，經過長達14 年艱苦卓絕的奮戰，中國人民終於打敗了日本法西斯，與美、英、蘇等盟國一起，取得了反法西斯戰爭的全面勝利，迎來了世界和平。這場戰爭中，中國陣亡將士總人數達130余萬。為了永久銘記中國軍隊在世界反法西斯戰爭中所做出的卓越貢獻和巨大犧牲，本書作者花費多年時間，自費搜集、調研在抗戰中捐軀（含陣亡戰死、自戕、戰場傷病復發殉職和被俘殺害、暗害等）的中國將軍的有關資料和生平事蹟，共得 982人，整理成書。這982人中，包括中國國民革命軍、中國遠征軍旅（團）職以上，中國抗日義勇軍、中國東北抗日聯軍和中國抗日救國軍等軍隊軍職以上將領，'將軍'包括正式授予軍銜、職務軍銜和殉國後國家追贈、追晉軍銜等情況。全書共分三卷，分別按中文姓氏筆劃排列。其中上卷介紹了130 位將軍，中卷介紹了141 位將軍，下卷介紹了180 位將軍，並在最後以表格形式記錄統計了531 位將軍。同時，對每位將軍的主要信息與功績都在首頁用英文進行了概要介紹。
