Bulgarian Horrors and the Question of the East is a book written by William Ewart Gladstone in 1876. The book discusses the Bulgarian atrocities committed by the Ottoman Empire during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-78. Gladstone, a British politician and statesman, was deeply disturbed by the reports of the atrocities and felt compelled to speak out against them. In the book, he argues that the Ottoman Empire was a threat to peace and stability in Europe and that the Great Powers needed to intervene to protect the Balkan peoples from further violence. Gladstone’s book had a significant impact on public opinion in Britain and helped to galvanize support for the Balkan cause. It is considered a seminal work in the history of British foreign policy and a landmark in the development of humanitarian intervention as a concept. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
