Nieadekwatność i złe zarządzanie infrastrukturą higieniczno-sanitarną w szkołach średnich na trasie Filingué-Wadata często stanowi zagrożenie dla zdrowia uczniów, a także może pośrednio wpływać na ich naukę. Celem niniejszego badania jest rozwiązanie problemu nieodpowiednich warunków sanitarnych i ich wpływu na naukę uczniów w tych szkołach średnich w Niamey. Opierając się na danych empirycznych z terenu (wywiady z kierownikami administracyjnymi i ankiety wśród uczniów), przedstawiono czynniki ograniczające dostępność i prawidłowe funkcjonowanie tych obiektów higieniczno-sanitarnych. W rzeczywistości brak infrastruktury higienicznej, w połączeniu ze złym zarządzaniem i niezdrowym środowiskiem szkolnym, zamienia te szkoły w niezdrowe terytoria, narażając uczniów na choroby związane z higieną. Spośród 72 latryn w 8 szkołach średnich w dystrykcie, tylko 22 są częściowo sprawne, łącznie dla 6 833 uczniów, tj. jedna latryna na 311 uczniów.
