'Blessed Imelda Lambertini' by W. Roche, S.J., is a poignant and spiritually enriching biography of the young girl who became the patroness of First Communicants. Set in 14th-century Italy, the narrative follows the life of Imelda Lambertini, whose singular and profound desire was to receive the Holy Eucharist. Despite her youth and the ecclesiastical traditions of the era, her devotion to the 'Hidden Jesus' was so intense that it culminated in a miraculous intervention from heaven.Written with the sensitivity and theological depth characteristic of a Jesuit scholar, this work explores Imelda’s time as a postulant in the Dominican convent at Val di Pietra. Roche captures the essence of her brief but remarkable life, emphasizing the purity of her soul and the intensity of her prayer. The story reaches its climax with the famous account of the levitating Host, a divine sign that validated her holy longing and allowed her to receive her first and final Communion. This classic account serves not only as a hagiography but also as a devotional resource for families and educators. It remains a cherished text for its ability to convey the beauty of the Catholic faith and the significance of the Eucharist. By focusing on the virtues of faith, hope, and love, 'Blessed Imelda Lambertini' offers timeless inspiration to those seeking a deeper connection with the divine. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
