Die Vogelgrippe, allgemein bekannt als Vogelinfluenza, ist eine der größten Gesundheitsbedrohungen unserer Zeit. Es handelt sich um eine Infektionskrankheit bei Vögeln, die durch das Influenzavirus Typ A verursacht wird. Sie stellt eine ernsthafte Bedrohung für die wachsende Geflügelindustrie in Bangladesch dar und birgt das Risiko einer Übertragung auf den Menschen. Hausgeflügel ist besonders anfällig. In ihrer hochpathogenen Form ist die Krankheit extrem ansteckend und die Sterblichkeitsrate bei Geflügel kann fast 100 % erreichen. Die Vogelgrippe (AI) ist eine ansteckende virale Zoonose mit erheblichen Auswirkungen auf die öffentliche Gesundheit und negativen sozioökonomischen Folgen. Die hochpathogene Vogelgrippe (HPAI) wird von Vögeln auf den Menschen meist durch Kontakt mit kontaminiertem Geflügel und Gegenständen übertragen, sodass Menschen, die mit Vögeln in Kontakt kommen, wie z. B. Arbeiter auf Märkten für lebendes Geflügel, besonders gefährdet sind.
