Les forêts sont des puits de carbone naturels et jouent un rôle important dans la séquestration du carbone atmosphérique dans la biomasse et le sol. L’étude a été réalisée pour estimer le stock de carbone de la forêt communautaire Shankhadev Hasaura (SHCF) de Shivamandir-8 et 7 et de la forêt Manakamana (MF) des quartiers 4 et 5 de Kawasoti, Nawalparasi, Népal. Un total de 0,5 % de la surface totale a été pris pour le calcul de la biomasse. Le carbone de la biomasse de la SHCF était de 277,33 tonnes/ha, le carbone organique du sol (SOC) était de 141,38 tonnes/ha et la teneur moyenne en carbone de la FC était de 419,103 tonnes/ha. La biomasse de la MF était de 239,26 tonnes/ha, le carbone organique du sol de 222,36 tonnes/ha et la teneur moyenne en carbone de la forêt de 461,609 tonnes/ha. Il y a plus d’arbres avec des valeurs DBH inférieures (5-10 cm) dans les deux forêts, ce qui montre que ces forêts sont jeunes et ont le potentiel de stocker plus de carbone. Une bonne gestion de la FC par le CFUG plutôt que par les non-CF produit plus de carbone dans la biomasse des arbres de la SHCF que de la MF.
