Die zunehmende Industrialisierung und Motorisierung der Welt hat zu einem steilen Anstieg der Nachfrage nach Erdölprodukten geführt. Kraftstoffe auf Erdölbasis werden aus begrenzten Reserven gewonnen. Diese endlichen Reserven konzentrieren sich stark auf bestimmte Regionen der Welt. Daher sehen sich Länder, die nicht über diese Ressourcen verfügen, vor allem aufgrund des Imports von Rohöl mit einer Devisenkrise konfrontiert. Aus diesem Grund ist es notwendig, nach alternativen Kraftstoffen zu suchen, die aus im Inland verfügbaren Rohstoffen hergestellt werden können. Der rasante Anstieg der Kraftstoffpreise und die schwindenden Kohlenwasserstoffressourcen weltweit haben uns dazu gezwungen, nach alternativen Kraftstoffen zu suchen, die sowohl den stetig steigenden Energiebedarf decken als auch die Umwelt schützen, indem sie die Emissionen schädlicher Schadstoffe reduzieren.
